AGB Thursdays: Julián Pernett Castilla

We’re staying up late.

Join us every Thursday evening when we will give you extra hours to visit all the galleries, book one of our spaces, and enjoy our art loving community.

This week, enjoy a free concert by pianist Julián Pernett Castilla starting at 5 pm and our monthly Director’s Tour starting at 6 pm!

Julián Pernett Castilla, a dynamic pianist and improviser, brings together the rich harmonies of the late Scriabin and the bright textures of Herbie Hancock’s Fender Rhodes in this special performance. Inspired by the vibrant colors and halos of Dutch Impressionist art, his improvisations will mirror the beauty and emotion of the gallery’s masterpieces. Woven with folk melodies from the region, this recital turns the piano into a living canvas, creating a conversation between music and painting that speaks to everyone, from the curious newcomer to the seasoned art lover.

Rooted in classical and Afro-Latin jazz fusion traditions, Julián’s music reflects his Colombian Caribbean heritage and his passion for improvisation. His recent projects explore a wide range of creative approaches, from Brazilian Tropicália, paseo vallenato, and New Orleans jazz, to experimental ideas inspired by Dada and Surrealism. This concert invites you to experience a world where sonic art and visual art collide, painting vivid soundscapes as captivating as the works on display.
