Join us at 5pm for a free musical performance inspired by our current exhibitions featuring Tampa-based pianist and improviser Julián Pernett Castilla, Motown, R&B, and Funk vocalist Ywada Pitts, and percussionist Matthew Korloch.
Julián Pernett Castilla’s music reflects his Colombian Caribbean heritage and his passion for improvisation that is rooted in classical and Afro-Latin jazz fusion traditions. A professor of music at St. Leo University, Julián received his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Universidad Juan N. Corpas (Bogota, Columbia), a Master’s of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of South Florida.
Ywada Pitts is a Sarasota native who has been singing since the age of 4. Known as a powerhouse vocalist, Ywada has been featured on the hiphop and R&B music show 106 & Park and performed as the opening act for well known musical artists such as Anthony Hamilton, El DeBarge, Ledisi, R. Kelly, Joe, and Fantasia. An established professional in her field, Ywada maintains an active presence in the Sarasota music scene as a vocalist in the R&B group, Soul Sensations.
Matthew Korloch is a percussionist, educator, and performer in the Tampa Bay area. A recent graduate of the University of South Florida (USF) School of Music, Korloch received dual Bachelors’ degrees in Percussion Performance and Jazz Drum Set Studies. A former percussionist in the Gulf Coast Symphony, Mr. Korloch has performed in numerous festivals across the region and beyond including the National Music Festival, Miami Music Festival, and the CAMPground Festival in Tampa Bay and has performed alongside esteemed jazz and classical artists including Ross Strauser, Alexis Cole, Jack Wilkins, and Grammy-nominated composer Chuck Owens.
